“My
honesty, reasonable prices and unique business idea are
the reasons behind the success of the Raza Birds Farm”
Ghulam
Raza Pathan loved birds as a child and continued his
passion for these winged creatures throughout his adult
life by nurturing and taking care of them. Raza did his
Masters in Business Administration with a marketing major
from IBA, Hyderabad and all the while kept alive his
passion for birds.
Raza
received a job opportunity in Karachi at which point he
had to sell off his pet birds and upon earning a hefty
amount of profit from the sale realized this could be
turned into a profitable venture. Raza came to Karachi and
worked for two years where he started saving money so that
he could purchase more birds, farm them and then go on to
sell them. With an initial investment of Rs.50,000 he
bought two types of birds, Bajri and Fisher and started a
small-scale operation, which was a one man show. Raza was
making the cages for these birds himself and would travel
from his farm in Shahdadpur every Friday to Qila Ground
Market in Hyderabad where he would meet with buyers and
exporters amongst other farmers from Sindh.
The
physical exertion was soon taking its toll and Raza
realized he had to hire help. With hired help by his side,
he was able to focus more on the development and expansion
of the business. Raza rapidly started to gain recognition
in the market with people from all stratums of society
interested in buying the beautiful birds he has to
beautify their homes and keep them as pets. He has 25
pairs of Fisher, which have produced 300 pairs yet, and 50
pairs of Bajri, which have produced 500 pairs yet. With
minimal competition, Raza enjoys a large clientele.
In the
future, Raza hopes to move his farm to Hyderabad to be
exposed to a bigger market and provide employment to more
people in sync with his expansion plan. He also hopes to
add more varieties of birds such as good quality chickens
and pigeons and look towards exporting these birds.
